After the Storm

We had a great thunderstorm yesterday, pretty much all day.  Had a tornado watch for about an hour, a LOT of hail (most that I've ever seen)  and great storm clouds.

Here's a few photos I took after the strorms stopped (in our area)

sunrays
rainbands

and a video of the hailstorm during the tornado watch.

Ribbon Cutting - Cargill Industries

Yesterday I was priveleged to shoot a ribbon cutting ceremony @ Cargill Inc.  up in Fort Collins.  They enlarged their plant there and it was an incredible day!   They produce Canola plants which gives us Canola oil, which gives us McDonalds, Oreo Cookies, Cheerios, and lots of other products!!

CASA of Broomfield and Adams County

_DSC7619
_DSC7649

I was sworn in yesterday to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children.   It was a 30 hr class and now I'm sworn in before the Judge in Adams County.   There were 19 of us in the class, and we're all starting to get our court cases this week.

The volunteers get to know the children and their circumstances, show them that someone cares, advocate for their best interests (including making recommendations to the Court), encourage them to grow to their fullest potential, and become involved in key issues in their life, especially permanent placement, and school, health, and mental health issues.

A CASA volunteer is often the sole consistent adult anchor for foster children. Children frequently remark how important it is to them that these tireless advocates are the only people in “the system” who are not paid to assist them. CASA volunteers give a voice to a child who cannot speak up for herself or himself and are frequently viewed as mentors or guides.

Judges typically assign CASA volunteers their most difficult and complex cases: children with prior maltreatment or contact with child welfare, cases of extreme abuse or neglect, or those where there is a great level of risk of further abuse and neglect. Many children assigned to CASA have learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and significant emotional and mental health problems.

Bunnies and foxes don't mix!

I was taking pictures of bunnies in the backyard about 1/2 hr ago - they are so cute..

JGL_6294

There must have been 10 of them just on the grass outside my window.   And then there were about 3, as the other 7 hightailed it .. and then I saw what made them run.

JGL_6313

Its just a baby.. not the same one that I saw the other week..

JGL_6286-1

This is what happens when bunnies get tunnel vision I guess..  luckily I rapped on the window and scared the fox away before he got any of them..

Senior portraits

I took some senior portraits on Monday.   They came out pretty good, a lot of great models.  It wasn't an actual paying gig, but there were 5 models to shoot from, all day event hosted by Jill Bailey up at her studios in LaSalle, CO.   Professional Photographers of Colorado  put it on, must have been 35 photographers up there invading that poor little town..

La Piazza Dell'Arte

This weekend in Denver is the 7th annual "Piazza Dell'Arte  street art festival, and I do mean STREET.    Chalk artists take to the streets of Downtown Denver and create masterpieces on the street just using chalk.  I took some photos (duh) and here is a sample of what was down there.   Jenn you'd have loved it (Jenns my daughter)  who loved to draw and do exactly what these people were doing.
